Eastleigh trader loses 18 years of hard work as fire destroys his shop and $180,000 (Ksh 23 million) in cash kept in a safe (PHOTOs)

Monday, August 25, 2025 - An Eastleigh-based businessman is counting massive losses after a devastating fire reduced his shop to ashes.

For 18 years, Nur Sheikh Mohammed, a well-known trader, had poured his heart and soul into building a thriving business that supplied household goods and clothing to locals and visiting traders from across the country.

His shop was more than just a source of livelihood, it was his legacy.

But in a cruel twist of fate, the fire consumed everything he had worked for.

Not only was his entire stock reduced to rubble, but his savings-cum-capital of $180,000 (Ksh 23 million), which he had kept in a safe, was also burnt beyond recovery.

The full extent of the losses is still being assessed, but the emotional toll is already unbearable.

For a man who had dedicated nearly two decades to his trade, this tragedy is more than financial, it is deeply personal.

Nur now faces the daunting task of starting from scratch, a burden no one should carry alone.
