Tuesday, July 15, 2025 - Detectives from Makindu Police Station have arrested Stephen Kioko, the second suspect in connection with the brazen highway motor vehicle theft that occurred on July 13th, 2025, along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway.

Kioko’s arrest comes just days after his alleged accomplice, Musyoka Mutava, was apprehended and the stolen Subaru Trezia recovered in Ukia, Makueni Sub-County.

According to police sources, ongoing investigations and intelligence gathering pointed to Kioko as a key figure in the coordination of the attack and subsequent getaway.

His arrest is considered a major breakthrough in dismantling what authorities believe is an organized motor vehicle theft syndicate targeting long-distance motorists on major highways.
