Dreams Cut Short!! Mount Kenya University Law student shot dead while taking PHOTOs during Saba Saba protests

Tuesday, July 8, 2025 - The Mount Kenya University School of Law is in mourning after one of its promising students, Ian Mungai, was tragically killed during the Saba Saba protests on Monday.

Ian, a passionate and bright young man with aspirations of becoming an advocate, was reportedly documenting the protests through his camera lens when he was struck by a stray bullet to the head.

Eyewitnesses say he was not participating in any acts of violence, but simply taking photographs on the sidelines when chaos broke out.

His death has sparked outrage among fellow students, human rights defenders, and the public, many of whom are questioning the use of live ammunition against unarmed demonstrators and civilians.

Ian had dreamed of becoming a respected advocate and making a difference in his community.

Friends describe him as soft-spoken, thoughtful, and always willing to help others in their academic journey.

He was known for his curiosity, love for photography, and his deep belief in constitutional rights.

His death now adds to the growing list of young lives lost during the ongoing demonstrations across the country, as protesters demand better governance, accountability, and protection of civil liberties.
