Monday, July 28, 2025 - Dagoretti North MP, Beatrice Elachi, has said she would support the removal of President William Ruto from office, provided it is done peacefully and constitutionally.
Speaking in an interview, Elachi emphasized that she would
never back any form of military intervention, chaos, or anarchy to unseat the President.
"How I wish somebody could show me how to remove
President William Ruto from power and get a new president - not the military,
not chaos or anarchy.”
“I will really support that,” said Elachi.
“But if we don’t have that solution, I’ll stick to what we
have: preparing to remove the President through the ballot.”
Her remarks come nearly a month after former Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua urged Kenyans to avoid unconstitutional means of
leadership change.
On June 28th, Gachagua acknowledged the growing
public dissatisfaction with the current administration but maintained that
elections remain the only legitimate path to change.
“If we endured 24 years of Moi's repression, we can survive
two more years of Ruto and vote him out. I believe in the rule of law and the
Constitution,” he stated.
President Ruto also recently pushed back against calls for
his resignation, challenging critics to offer credible alternatives.
“If it's 'Ruto must go', then tell me how you want me to go.
You can’t replace a plan with no plan. All you have is hate and violence, and
you want us to agree with you? Kenya has very few fools,” Ruto said.
