RUTO’s Government responds to Sudan’s accusations of funding RSF militia - ‘Baseless and reckless’

Thursday, June 26, 2025 - Kenya has firmly rejected fresh accusations by Sudan's Armed Forces (SAF) alleging Nairobi’s interference in Khartoum’s internal affairs, calling the claims baseless and reckless.

In a statement from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, signed by Strategic Communication Secretary, Peter Warutere, Kenya dismissed the allegations as unsubstantiated and inconsistent with principles of good neighbourliness and mutual respect.

“Kenya considers the continued and unsubstantiated allegations by the SAF administration to be not only regrettable but also inconsistent with the principles of good neighbourliness and mutual respect,” the statement read.

“Such reckless actions risk undermining regional peace and stability.”

The diplomatic tension escalated after Sudan on Monday accused Kenya of backing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and called for Nairobi to cease its alleged interference. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry urged Kenya to respect its sovereignty and adhere to the UN Charter.

Kenya, however, reiterated its long-held position of neutrality, stressing support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and an inclusive, Sudanese-led peace process.

“The responsibility for charting Sudan’s future rests with the Sudanese people,” Kenya stated, urging SAF to focus on resolving internal issues rather than blaming external actors.

Kenya also criticised SAF for using false claims to deflect attention from its domestic challenges.

“This outdated strategy aims to generate external tensions in hopes of rallying domestic support,” the statement said.

The standoff follows an NTV exposé alleging weapons with Kenyan markings were found in Sudan.

Kenya has denied the claims.
