Monday, June 23, 2025 - President Ruto’s Government, through spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, has declared that no demonstrations will be allowed on Wednesday, June 25th, urging Kenyans to carry on with their normal daily activities.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 23rd,
Mwaura emphasized that those wishing to commemorate the day should do so from
home, not on the streets.
“There will be no demonstrations on June 25.”
“The day will proceed as normal. Anyone wishing to reflect
or commemorate may do so from the comfort of their homes,” he said.
Mwaura condemned the violence witnessed in previous
protests, cautioning against criminal elements who hijack such gatherings.
“I strongly condemn hooligans who use demonstrations to
commit crimes.”
“The police’s core duty is to protect all citizens without
political bias,” he noted.
Meanwhile, National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson,
Michael Muchiri, has warned business owners against hiring private guards
during protests.
“There is no legal provision allowing citizens to hire
people to protect their businesses. Youths asked to do so are breaking the
law,” he cautioned.
Gen Z across the country have wowed to storm to the streets
on June 25th to commemorate those killed during last year’s protests
against Finance Bill 2024.
According to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority
(IPOA), nine Gen Z
protestors - mostly in their
late teens and early twenties were killed near Parliament on June 25, 2024.
Nationwide, 60 people died, including 29 in Nairobi alone.
