SHOCK as murder suspect overpowers armed police officers in Kisumu during an operation led by the OCS - He is walking free and threatening the residents

Tuesday, March 18, 2025 - Residents of Nyakach in Kisumu County are reportedly living in fear following claims that a murder suspect is walking free after police officers, who were attempting to arrest him, were allegedly overpowered by a group of gangsters.

The suspect is said to be linked to the killing of a local elder who was reportedly attacked on Friday night while on a 'Nyumba Kumi' patrol in Kagak village alongside the area chief and assistant chief.

Sources indicate that officers from Oboch Police Station, led by OCS Ogoro attempted to apprehend the suspect on Monday but a group of individuals, believed to have been posing as boda boda riders, allegedly confronted the officers.

Despite being fully armed, the officers were seemingly outnumbered, with reports indicating they were forced to retreat.

The suspect escaped during the commotion.

Reports further suggest that one officer sustained injuries after being struck with stones and was later taken to Nyabondo Mission Hospital for treatment.

Some locals have expressed concerns, alleging that the suspects have been spotted in the area and are said to be issuing threats to residents.

Fears are rife that the situation could escalate if urgent measures are not taken to address the insecurity in the area.

Below is a message from a concerned resident.

This situation in Nyakach is getting worse by the day. On Friday night, an elder was murdered while on patrol with the area chief and assistant chief. They were conducting a Nyumba Kumi patrol when a gang ambushed them. The chief and his assistant managed to get away, but the elder was not as lucky. They killed him on the spot. It was brutal. The body was taken to Nyabondo Hospital, and the postmortem was done yesterday. But the shocking part is that the main suspect and his accomplices are still roaming around freely. They have been seen in the village, bragging openly about what they did. They are even threatening residents, warning them not to speak up. People are living in fear because nobody knows who will be next. Yesterday, officers from Oboch Police Station, led by OCS Ogoro, finally tried to arrest the suspect. They found him, but before they could take him away, a group of men suddenly appeared, pretending to be boda boda riders. Within seconds, everything turned chaotic. They started shouting, pushing, and throwing things at the officers. The police were fully armed, but they were completely overwhelmed. They ran for their lives. Imagine police officers fleeing while the suspect just walked away as if nothing had happened. During the scuffle, one officer was hit with a stone. He was badly injured and had to be rushed to Nyabondo Hospital. Meanwhile, the suspect disappeared into the crowd. The officers never came back, and now the gang is more emboldened than ever. The villagers are feeling helpless. People are scared to leave their homes at night. Some are even thinking of taking matters into their own hands because they have lost trust in the authorities."
