Monday, January 15, 2024 - President William Ruto has blamed his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta over the current economic problems facing the country.
On Sunday, Ruto shared an excerpt
from an old Standard newspaper to explain the country's current economic
problems.
Ruto shared a comparison between
the rate of tax collected to GDP during the regime of former president Mai
Kibaki and that of Uhuru.
From the post shared by Ruto, the
rate of tax collection to GDP under the Kibaki regime remained above 20% for
five years in the period between 2007 and 2012.
However, the statistics shared by
Ruto showed the rate has taken a downward trajectory since Uhuru took power in
2013.
According to Ruto, the drop in the
tax rate collected from the country's GDP was the primary cause of Kenya's
current financial issues.
"This is where the
problem lies," the head of state stated.
