Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has been accused of faking illness to avoid taking a plea in the assault case facing him.

Salasya was arrested over the weekend after he assaulted Malaha/Isongo/Makunga MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli on Friday.

He is currently out on police cash bail and he was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday to face assault charges.

However, Salasya allegedly fell ill on Tuesday and was admitted to a city hospital.

"Honourable Peter Salasya is currently not feeling well please pray for him. It's not well with him," reads one of his Facebook posts.

Salasya spent the night in custody after he assaulted the MCA who had advised him to be respectful during his speech.

"Indimuli requested the MP observe family decorum in his speech, but instead the MP arrogantly shouted him down, which immediately erupted into unrest amongst the mourners.

"The MP then attacked the MCA with blows and slaps," the police report read in part.

Members of the public rescued the ward representative and whisked him away.

"Four gunshots suspected to have been discharged by the MP's security detail were heard," the report further reads.
