Friday, January 12, 2024 - Chief Justice Martha Koome has indirectly urged President William Ruto to stop attacking the Judiciary without tabling concrete evidence of corrupt judges.
For the last month, Ruto has been attacking the Judiciary, claiming
rogue judges are colluding with corrupt cartels to sabotage his development
agenda for Kenyans.
Koome said the allegations should be backed
with evidence and not on blanket statements being made without any proof.
She called out the
Kenya Kwanza Alliance government for what she said was disrespecting
constitutional order.
"Let us never
take law into our hands. We all must remain faithful to the constitution which
is our true North," Koome said.
Koome made the
remarks at the Milimani Law Courts as CRJ Anne Amadi retired from office.
Going further, the
Chief Justice said the commission is ready to process any complaints leveled
against any Judge or Judicial Officer who is implicated in corruption or any
other acts of misconduct.
"I urge all
judges and judicial staff to continue discharging their duties per their oath
of office," she said.
