SHOCK as it emerges that a phone belonging to murdered University student SLYVIA KEMUNTO was found in the offering bag at Jesus is Alive Ministries Church - Pastor testifies

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 - Shocking details have emerged in the murder trial of Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto Ayaye after a pastor told the High Court in Kibera that the deceased’s mobile phone was discovered among church offerings.

The witness, who also serves as an administrator at Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church, testified that an Oppo mobile phone was found among the collections on April 2, 2025, while church officials were counting the offerings.

“We kept the phone in safe custody until police officers came looking for it. They informed us that call data indicated that the deceased’s phone had been within the church compound,” she told the court.

The testimony was presented during the trial of Erick Mutinda Philip, who is charged with Sylvia’s murder.

Silas Ochieng Elphine Otieno, who was in charge of the university’s security department, also testified, explaining how the institution received a report about Sylvia’s disappearance and worked with investigators to trace her whereabouts.

Otieno told the court that on April 2, 2025, a search team discovered a decomposing body inside a water reservoir tank on the rooftop of a university hostel.

Police officers were alerted and took over the scene, where the body was identified as that of Sylvia.

Another witness, Neununa Mounira Namatsi, a fellow student who described Sylvia as a close friend and classmate, recounted her attempts to reach her after she went missing.

Namatsi also testified about the relationship between Sylvia and the accused, describing it as toxic and alleging that Mutinda mistreated her.

She further told the court that Sylvia had considered moving to a hostel outside the university to avoid frequent encounters with the accused.

However, her mother reportedly advised her to remain at the institution and complete her studies.

Derrick Higai Luther, a student who shared a hostel room with the accused, testified about their accommodation arrangements and interactions with university security personnel during the period under investigation.

Meghan Nasserian Kihara, who had previously shared a room with Sylvia, also took the stand and recounted what she knew about the deceased and the information she received following the discovery of her body.

Mutinda is accused of murdering Sylvia on March 30, 2025, at Multimedia University of Kenya, along Magadi Road in Lang’ata Sub-County, Nairobi County.

The trial continues as witnesses present their accounts of the events surrounding the university student’s disappearance and death.
