Thursday, September 10, 2026 - Drama unfolded at a research conference in Kisumu when legal scholar Prof. PLO Lumumba abruptly walked off stage after organizers asked him to pause his presentation to allow Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to be welcomed.
Prof. Lumumba was midway through his address when he was informed of the governor’s arrival and instructed to stop.
In footage from the event, the renowned lawyer appeared visibly frustrated, questioning why an ongoing session had to be interrupted for a late arrival.
“The governor knew that we are in the meeting. He chose to come to interrupt, and we are here celebrating,” he stated.
“I’ll stop, but this is the kind of thing that holds Africa back,” he added before storming off stage, leaving attendees stunned.
The incident has since drawn mixed reactions online.
Some defended Lumumba, saying his stance highlighted long‑standing concerns about respect for time, planning and programme discipline.
Others, however, argued that acknowledging a governor’s arrival is
standard protocol at public functions and suggested Lumumba could have handled
the situation differently.
