CS JOHO stuns RASHID ABDALLA during live interview, reveals he was close to his mother and has his old PHOTO from his early days in Mombasa - Is this a threat? (VIDEO)

Wednesday, September 09, 2026 - Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho left Citizen TV anchor Rashid Abdalla visibly surprised during a sit-down interview after revealing a little-known connection to the journalist’s family.

During the interview, Joho turned the tables on his host by recalling his relations with Rashid’s mother.

The CS further claimed that he still has an old picture of the journalist.

“I have an old picture of you because I'm from Mombasa. And your mother, who is... used to work at the port.

“And if you go home, ask your mother. She was, well, I was close to her. I would go say hello to her. And I know where you've come from,” Joho told Rashid on air.

Joho went on to praise Rashid for his ambition and credited it with helping him establish himself as one of Kenya’s most recognisable television personalities.

“If you did not have ambition, today, as we speak, you would be somewhere in Matuga, probably sitting at the beach or the most, doing some local vernacular there.

“But you have built a household name because you had ambition. And one day I know you'll be an owner of a big media company and a big production company. Shalom,” Joho added.

A clip of the exchange has gone viral, sparking debate among netizens.

Some social media users interpreted Joho’s remarks as carrying a deeper political message, particularly amid Lulu Hassan’s reported bid for the Mvita parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, where the incumbent MP is reportedly close to the Joho family.
