RAILA ODINGA JR. clarifies viral Video of him addressing crowd through fence during CHARLENE RUTO’s wedding after backlash

Tuesday, August 11, 2026 - Raila Odinga Junior has addressed mounting criticism over a viral video showing him addressing a crowd through a fence in Kilgoris, during President Ruto’s daughter’s wedding.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, Raila Junior clarified that the footage was not filmed at President William Ruto’s private residence but at the Kilgoris public airstrip.

“I have seen the video and the comments circulating about me greeting wananchi through a fence.

“For clarity, this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” he stated.

He explained that upon alighting from an aircraft, a group of locals recognized him and waved.

He responded to their greetings in what he described as a normal, respectful manner.

Raila Junior further noted that the fence visible in the clip is a standard safety barrier designed to protect the aircraft landing area.

“The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft. I responded to their greeting in the normal way one does with members of the public,” he added.

The clarification comes after the video sparked heated debate online, with some critics accusing him of appearing aloof toward ordinary citizens.

Raila Junior was in Kilgoris to attend the traditional engagement ceremony of President Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, on Saturday, August 8.

He was accompanied by his mother, Mama Ida Odinga, and sister, EALA MP Winnie Odinga.

The high-profile event also drew senior government officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and several Cabinet Secretaries.
