Police arrest a gang behind the theft of motor vehicle parts after stopping a suspicious motorbike along Kangundo Road (PHOTOs)

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - Police officers have arrested two suspects after intercepting a suspicious motorcycle along Kangundo Road and recovering suspected stolen motor vehicle parts in a major crackdown on the rising cases of vehicle parts theft in Nairobi.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Obama Police Station stopped the motorcycle and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of a suspected stolen Toyota Harrier grille and a Toyota Harrier headlight.

The two suspects were immediately arrested and placed in custody pending their arraignment in court.

In a significant breakthrough, the recovered vehicle parts were marked with a vehicle registration number, providing detectives with a crucial lead in tracing the rightful owner and helping establish the full circumstances surrounding the theft.

Vehicle parts theft has become a growing concern across Nairobi, with criminals targeting vehicles parked in public spaces and even those caught in traffic.

Headlights, grilles, side mirrors, and other high-value components are among the most commonly stolen items, leaving motorists with hefty replacement costs.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating vehicle parts theft and urged motorists to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
