“I don’t know what I will do without you” —LIONEL MESSI pens emotional tribute to late dad and hints at retiring from playing football

Thursday, August 13, 2026 – Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has opened up about the devastating loss of his father, Jorge Messi, who died on Saturday at the age of 68.

In an emotional Instagram post, the legendary footballer admitted he is struggling to cope.

 “Dad, I still can’t believe you’re gone. It hasn’t sunk in, or rather, I don’t want it to sink in.”

Messi traveled to Rosario, Argentina, for the wake, where family and fans gathered to honor Jorge, who was not only his father but also his agent and manager throughout his career.

Reflecting on Argentina’s World Cup journey, Messi revealed the emotional toll and confessed uncertainty about his future in football.

“I don’t know how to keep going. All I ever did was play soccer, and now I have serious doubts about whether I’ll keep doing it for much longer,” he shared.
