A night of fun turns chaotic as senior KDF officer attacks his girlfriend at Amnesty Lounge in Athi River - Left her with burn injuries

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - What started as a night of fun at a popular entertainment joint in Athi River ended in chaos after a senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was arrested following an altercation that left his girlfriend with burn injuries.

According to a police Occurrence Book (OB) report, the incident happened on Wednesday at around 2:30 a.m. at Amnesty Lounge in Athi River, Machakos County.

The suspect, identified as a Captain attached to the 17 Kenya Rifles in Garissa, was arrested after the woman sustained burns during the incident.

The lounge manager and a security guard reportedly rushed to the scene after hearing the woman's screams.

They found the 33-year-old victim with burn injuries on her lower abdomen after she was splashed with hot water from a thermos flask used for serving chasers.

She was rushed to Bahati Hospital, where she was admitted in fair condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the officer and the woman were in a romantic relationship and had been drinking together before a disagreement escalated into the assault.

The suspect is being held at Joska Police Station as detectives continue with investigations before a decision is made on possible charges.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
