Inside job? A family accosted by 6 armed men and robbed of Ksh 500,000 withdrawn from KCB bank to finalize land payment

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - Detectives have launched investigations after a family was ambushed by six armed men and robbed of Ksh 500,000 in cash shortly after withdrawing the money from a KCB Bank branch in Kimilili, Bungoma County.

According to a police Occurrence Book (OB) report, the robbery occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Ndakaru Bridge along the Chwele-Lwakhakha Road.

The family was travelling in a black Toyota Wish to Namangofulo Village to make the final payment for a parcel of land that the family patriarch had purchased.

However, their journey was cut short after they were overtaken and intercepted by a Toyota Axio.

Six men armed with pistols reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and ordered the family to surrender their valuables.

The gang made away with Ksh 500,000 in cash that the victim had withdrawn earlier from KCB Bank, Kimilili Branch, as well as his Nokia mobile phone valued at Ksh 24,000.

Other family members were also robbed of their personal belongings before the suspects fled towards Chwele Town.

Police officers visited and processed the scene, while detectives launched investigations and are reviewing CCTV footage from the bank and nearby areas to establish the identity of the suspects.
