SIFUNA recounts how he landed a life changing job in 2010 as he slams RUTO – “I Left Home in a Matatu and Returned Driving”

Saturday, July 25, 2026 - Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has reignited debate over President William Ruto’s “Kazi ni Kazi” mantra, dismissing it as impractical and detached from reality.

Speaking on Saturday, July 25, the Linda Mwananchi leader insisted that employment must uplift workers and their families, not simply provide survival.

Sifuna illustrated his point with a personal story from 2010.

“I left Roysambu in a matatu, and I returned home in my own vehicle on the first day,” he recalled.

He explained that after joining a Nairobi law firm as Manager, Legal Affairs, the company immediately instructed him to pick a brand‑new car from a showroom.

“They told me I should not be moving around on foot,” he added.

The Senator argued that meaningful jobs must align with one’s area of study and offer proper remuneration.

“The President keeps telling us that ‘Kazi ni Kazi,’ but that is not the reality,” he said, warning that heavy taxation on industries is scaring away investors and shrinking opportunities.

He noted that firms that remain under punitive taxes often underpay workers to protect profit margins.

Sifuna assured youths that a future government would create a fair business environment by respecting the law and avoiding harassment of investors.

He said this would attract foreign capital and generate jobs for young Kenyans.

His remarks came shortly after President Ruto announced that 30,000 youths had secured internships under the Next Generation of Kenya Youth Employment Programme, with plans to scale up to 100,000 in three years in partnership with UNDP and KEPSA.
