How Linda Mwananchi mobilizer was abducted by state agents, tortured and charged with murder of GSU officer (PHOTOs)

Thursday, May 7, 2026 - Concerns are mounting over the arrest and prosecution of Omar, a grassroots mobilizer associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, following dramatic claims of abduction, torture and a controversial murder charge.

According to reports, Omar was abducted on Tuesday morning at around 7:00 a.m while traveling in a matatu.

Witnesses claim a double-cabin vehicle blocked the vehicle before men believed to be police officers pulled him out, blindfolded him and bundled him away.

Omar was then driven across multiple police stations, including Eldoret Police Station, Kapsabet Police Station, Mosoriot Police Station, Kaimosi Police Station and Kisumu Central Police Station, where officers reportedly declined to officially book his arrest.

He was eventually booked at Kondele Police Station under what his supporters describe as “malicious charges.”

During this period, it is alleged that he was subjected to torture and that 20 rolls of bhang and a teargas canister were planted on him.

Authorities have since accused him of being a “wanted criminal,” claims his supporters strongly dispute, insisting that he has remained publicly accessible and active within the community.

Omar now faces a serious charge linked to the alleged murder of a GSU officer identified as Calvo.

However, in court, the magistrate questioned inconsistencies in the charges, noting the discrepancy between the murder accusation and the alleged possession of illegal items.

The court has directed that the charge sheet be amended.
