Monday, April 27, 2026 - Kisumu Woman Representative, Ruth Odinga, has praised residents for maintaining peace and showing overwhelming support during the Linda Mwananchi rally held on Sunday, April 26th.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Ruth expressed gratitude
to Kisumu residents for turning out in large numbers to welcome ODM Secretary
General, Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, and other leaders allied
to the Linda Mwananchi movement.
“To the people of Kisumu, I say a heartfelt thank you.
Today, you demonstrated to the world that Kisumu remains a bastion of peace and
democratic maturity.”
“Despite tension fueled by a few, you chose to engage
with dignity and decorum,” she wrote.
She criticised attempts by certain politicians to disrupt
the rally by allegedly hiring goons.
“It is a matter of public record that some leaders
attempted to block this meeting, even mobilizing youth to disrupt it.”
“Fortunately, their attempts backfired. You saw through
these tactics and refused to be used as pawns in a game of political sabotage,”
she added.
The legislator, who is the sister of the late former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga, emphasised that freedom of movement and association are
constitutional rights.
She stressed that true leaders win support through dialogue
and ideas, not intimidation or exploitation of young people.
Her remarks come amid heightened political tensions within
ODM ahead of the 2027 elections.
