2026 - A family in Nyangusu, Bobasi, Kisii County, has been left
grief-stricken after what was meant to be a joyous celebration turned into
tragedy.
Joel, a father of three, had travelled home to join his
family in celebrating his son’s impressive performance in the recently released
KCSE results.
But within hours, the reunion ended in heartbreak when he
was discovered lifeless outside a local bar.
According to his father, Isaiah Sanduku, Joel arrived home
around 5 pm on the fateful day, bringing shopping for the family before
stepping out to meet friends.
“I was informed that my son had been lying in front of a bar
within 30 minutes of leaving the house.”
“I went to the area and found him unconscious,” Sanduku
recounted.
Another family friend disclosed that Joel had left home
around 6 pm to buy drinks in celebration of his child’s success, unaware it
would be his last outing.
The devastated family is now demanding answers, calling on
authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding Joel’s death.
Sanduku alleged that the bar has been linked to multiple
unexplained deaths, yet no investigations have ever been conducted.
“It is not the first time someone has died there. People
report deaths linked to the same bar, and it ends there,” he said.
The family has also appealed to Kisii Governor Simba Arati,
Joel’s employer, for assistance with funeral costs.
“My son worked for over 25 years. His wife died. He has
three children. We are asking the Governor to help us after what has befallen
our family,” Sanduku pleaded.
