07, 2026 - The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued a public advisory
after two lionesses were sighted outside Nairobi National Park, raising safety
concerns among nearby communities.
In a notice released on Wednesday, January 7th,
the agency confirmed the animals were seen at Sholinke Trading Area,
approximately 8.3 kilometers from the park boundary.
“Two lionesses from Nairobi National Park have been sighted in the
Sholinke Trading Area… KWS teams are actively managing the situation,”
the statement read.
According to KWS, rangers are already on the ground while
veterinary experts are en route to safely capture and relocate the lionesses.
“KWS rangers are on site and veterinary teams are en route to
safely dart, capture, and relocate the lionesses.”
“The operation is ongoing, with public safety as the top priority,”
the agency added.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid the area,
keep children indoors, and report any sightings through official channels.

The advisory comes just days after KWS announced that
Charles Osore, a resident of Luoka village in Ugunja, will receive Government
compensation after killing a python that attacked and killed his dog.
The incident drew national attention, prompting a visit by a
KWS delegation led by Senior Warden Grace Kariuki.
Kariuki commended Osore for cooperating with wildlife
authorities despite his loss and assured residents that the Government will
take responsibility for such incidents.
