Wednesday, January 07, 2026 - ODM Party Leader, Oburu Oginga, has moved to ease internal tensions by meeting Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday, January 7th.
In a statement after the meeting, Oburu praised Sifuna as a
principled leader who embodies the party’s democratic ideals.
“I met with my friend, Senator Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary General
of the ODM Party this morning. He remains a sober and principled voice… We are
one.”
“We are united as the ODM Party,” he said.
Oburu emphasized the importance of dialogue and encouraged
young leaders to speak openly, noting that differences of opinion should not be
mistaken for division.
“Great parties, like ODM, grow through robust debate and unique
challenges.”
“That is where the progress and continuity of our party truly lie:
in the hands of our young people,” he added.
The meeting comes shortly after Migori Senator Eddy Oketch
dropped a motion seeking to remove Sifuna from his position as ODM Secretary
General.
A section of ODM Members of Parliament had also raised an alarm
over rising intolerance and internal discord.
In a statement on Monday, January 5th, the MPs
warned that escalating political rhetoric and violence could destabilize the
party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The MPs also urged Sifuna and Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed,
to tone down public attacks and resolve disputes internally, warning that
continued infighting risks giving rival parties an advantage.
