JUNET MOHAMED speaks on possibility of ODM working with GACHAGUA's DCP ahead of 2027 elections

Thursday, January 22, 2026 - Suna East Member of Parliament, Junet Mohamed, has categorically dismissed any possibility of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) engaging in coalition talks with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, the outspoken legislator said Gachagua’s divisive rhetoric and tribal politics make cooperation impossible.

“No, no, the DCP, we can’t discuss anything with them. Can you discuss anything with Gachagua? He’s the only impeached Deputy President in Africa,” Junet remarked.

The National Assembly Minority Leader accused Gachagua of perpetuating ethnic divisions through controversial statements about communities and political shareholding.

“He’s always talking about communities, saying these ones have shares, these ones should leave Kenya, these ones are Ugandans.”

“He is constantly dividing Kenyans. How can we discuss anything with such a person?” Junet posed.

Despite ruling out talks with Gachagua, Junet acknowledged that politics remains unpredictable.

“Politics is the art of the unknown. Friends are foes tomorrow, foes are friends tomorrow. It’s normal in politics,” he observed.

On whether ODM will back President William Ruto in 2027, Junet remained cautious, noting that negotiations are ongoing.

“We have not reached there. If talks go well, we will support him. If not, we have options,” he said.

Junet also addressed questions about Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, who supported Raila Odinga in three consecutive presidential bids.

He praised Kalonzo’s loyalty but stopped short of committing ODM’s support.

“He is a good man, loyal to the core. But coalitions are meant for specific elections.”

“Once you don’t form Government, they end there,” Junet explained.

He added that the initiative lies with Kalonzo to seek ODM’s backing.

“It is him who should ask for the support. Personally, he didn’t ask me,” Junet concluded.
