17, 2025 - There was panic and confusion at a Nairobi parking lot after a
Kia Seltos SUV suddenly went up in flames under unclear circumstances.
In a video circulating online, concerned members of the
public are seen rushing to the scene in an attempt to put out the fire and
prevent it from spreading to nearby shops.
Amid the chaos, however, one man pretending to assist was
caught on camera shamelessly stealing from the burning vehicle.
The clip shows the suspect reaching into the car and picking what appears to be a mobile phone before quietly walking away, even as others focused on saving the vehicle.
“Men trying to pull the burning car from the vendor shop. A
thief is stealing from the same car shamelessly. A weak man,” an X user
commented on the video.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
However, mechanical experts have suggested it may have been
triggered by an electrical short circuit, possibly linked to a poorly installed
aftermarket alarm system.
