2025 - Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has
come under sharp criticism from Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, who accused him
of engaging in petty political manoeuvres instead of championing national
unity.
In a statement on social media, Salasya said he had stood
with Gachagua during the impeachment vote but now expects him to abandon
party-based battles and focus on uniting Kenyans.
"I did not impeach you, Rigathi Gachagua, and I stood
with you.”
“But let me remind you, sir, that we are not interested in
petty party-stake politics.”
“What matters to us is how we can unite Kenyans against a
regime that is completely lost in leading the country.”
“Otherwise, we will drop you from the list so you can focus
on your Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) kiosk," Salasya warned.
The remarks underscore growing divisions within the
opposition, with Salasya insisting that unity must take precedence over
internal party interests.
He cautioned that leaders unwilling to embrace this vision
risk being sidelined.
His comments follow Gachagua’s earlier declaration of a
political pact with Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, that would see DCP sweep all
Nairobi seats in the 2027 elections, including Governor, Senator, Woman
Representative, and MPs.
"We have agreed with Kalonzo Musyoka that gubernatorial,
senatorial, and woman representative seats in Nairobi will go to Democracy for
the Citizens Party (DCP)," Gachagua said.
