2025 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Oburu Odinga, has spoken
publicly for the first time after weeks of speculation surrounding his health
and well-being.
On Friday, November 28th, 2025, the Siaya Senator
took to his official X account to congratulate ODM candidates who secured
victories in the recently concluded by-elections.
He praised Moses Omondi (Ugunja), Boyd Were (Kasipul), and
Harrison Kombe (Magarini) for their “well-deserved wins,” noting that the
results reaffirmed the trust and confidence Kenyans continue to place in ODM’s
leadership.
Oburu’s message comes at a time of heightened public
interest in his health, offering reassurance to party members and supporters
nationwide.
The statement followed his earlier announcement on November
21st, when he revealed that he was taking a short sabbatical to
“recollect, recharge, and reset” after a series of intense family and political
engagements.
He emphasized that he was in good health and high spirits.
Nonetheless, the announcement sparked speculation among
Kenyans, prompting his son, Jaoko Oburu, to clarify details of his father’s
trip.
In a video shared on November 22nd, Jaoko
explained that the family had insisted that Oburu travels to Dubai to rest and
rejuvenate.
“We took mzee to go and rest. We forced him… he has to take
a break. Atarudi at the end of next week,” Jaoko said.
