Tuesday, November 18, 2025 - Kenyan-born US Army Officer, Silvia Jemutai, has achieved a remarkable milestone after being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
The new position places her among the Field Grade Officers
entrusted with commanding battalions and shaping military operations.
The promotion ceremony was held at the Ordnance Training
Support Facility in Fort Lee, Virginia, where Jemutai was joined by family,
friends and colleagues.
Jemutai, who hails from Eldama Ravine in Baringo County, dedicated
the achievement to her late mother, Jacqueline Alice Kirui, describing her as a
trailblazer whose sacrifices and strength paved the way for her journey.
As a Lieutenant Colonel, Jemutai will oversee between 300
and 1,000 soldiers, ensuring training, operational readiness and mission
execution.
Beyond command, the role also involves senior staff
responsibilities, including policy development and resource management at
brigade level.
Her rise reflects years of discipline and dedication in a highly competitive system where promotions to senior ranks are determined by merit, leadership and service record.
