3, 2025 - Outspoken Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has castigated Nairobi
County MCAs for what he termed a “political blunder” in their handling of the
impeachment motion against Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Speaking on Wednesday, Cherargei warned that the MCAs’
abrupt reversal will damage the credibility and integrity of the Nairobi County
Assembly.
“To Nairobi MCAs, that was a serious fluke and political
blunder that shall cost the integrity of the operations of the Nairobi City
County Assembly,” he said, adding that the impeachment threats lacked genuine
accountability.
His remarks follow high-level political interventions that
led to the shelving of the motion.
On Tuesday, President William Ruto and ODM leader, Raila
Odinga, held separate meetings with their respective party MCAs to defuse
mounting tensions at City Hall.
Earlier, over 70 MCAs from both ODM and UDA had signed in
support of the motion - just shy of the 82 signatures required to table it
officially.
Their grievances included unfulfilled campaign promises,
delayed bursary disbursements and the stalled Ward Development Fund.
Following the leaders’ intervention, the MCAs agreed to
suspend the motion for 60 days to give Sakaja time to address the issues
raised.
However, Cherargei urged them to act decisively once the
grace period lapses.
