UDA Senator backs RUTO to wipe out Opposition candidate in 2027 elections with RAILA’s support

Thursday, September 25, 2025 - Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei, has boldly declared that President William Ruto will easily defeat any opposition candidate in the 2027 General Elections if he gets the backing of ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking on a local TV station on Thursday, September 25th, Cherargei dismissed the idea of a united opposition posing a serious threat.

“Bring Kalonzo Musyoka, bring Rigathi Gachagua - though he’s impeached - bring Matiang’i, whoever. President Ruto will wipe them clean with Raila’s support,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing speculation about Raila Odinga’s role in the next election, following hints that ODM may field a candidate.

Cherargei, however, argued that the opposition is fragmented and lacks a clear agenda.

“There’s no united opposition. What we have is a group whose only goal is to fight the President,” he added.

The Senator’s comments followed the release of a TIFA survey on September 24th, which revealed that 32% of Kenyans believe Raila will support Ruto’s re-election bid.

The poll also showed that expectations around Raila’s 2027 position are heavily influenced by public attitudes toward the bipartisan dialogue process.

Among BBG supporters, 46% expect Raila to back Ruto, compared to 28% of opponents.

Meanwhile, 39% of respondents believe Raila will rejoin the opposition, either by contesting himself or supporting another candidate.
