Monday, September 15, 2025 - A week-long search for a missing construction worker at the Talanta Sports Stadium has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered inside a water tank at the site.
The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Sammy Kyengo, had
been reported missing by his wife a week earlier.
His body was found submerged in a sump concealed behind
wooden boards beneath the terraces on the stadium’s left wing, currently under
construction.
According to reports, the grim discovery was made around 9
a.m by a casual labourer preparing a room for plastering.
Upon removing the boards covering the sump, the worker found
Kyengo’s body floating in the water.
Investigators at the scene noted visible injuries on the
back of Kyengo’s head and the right side of his neck.
Blood was also observed seeping from his nose and mouth,
raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The body was transported to Nairobi Funeral Home after
forensic teams completed their initial assessment.
The incident has left workers at the site shaken.
“We are shocked and asking ourselves, ‘in whose hands are we
safe?’” said Ivan Bongo, a fellow labourer.
