4, 2025 - Presidential hopeful and gospel musician, Reuben Kigame, has
strongly criticized President Ruto’s plan to construct a church within State
House, terming the move inappropriate and misguided.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, September 3rd,
Kigame argued that the seat of power should not be transformed into a religious
sanctuary.
“I would not allow the construction of a church at State
House.”
“In principle, it is wrong, economically it is wrong, in
terms of policy it is wrong, and in terms of Christianity itself it is wrong,”
Kigame stated.
“The president is not the bishop of a country and State
House is not the religious centre of a country.”
He questioned the logic behind allocating Ksh1.2 billion - whether
from taxes or donations - toward the project, urging that such funds be
directed to pressing national needs.
Kigame further advised President William Ruto to prioritize
fighting corruption and addressing youth challenges over religious symbolism.
“Don’t build a church at State House. Use that money to take
care of our young people,” he said.
The aspirant also outlined his vision for a “disruptive”
presidency aimed at ending the historical dominance of the Kikuyu and Kalenjin
communities in Kenya’s top office.
“We want to mainstream those from other communities,” he
said.
Kigame confirmed his intention to run in the 2027 General
Elections, stating that preparations are underway and an official launch is
imminent.
He emphasized a campaign rooted in values and character,
calling for ethical leadership across all levels of Government.
