Friday, September 5, 2025 - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three employees of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) over bribery allegations.
The suspects, Mr. Jeremiah Onchuru Omwenga, Mr. Jeremiah
Omondi Masiwa, and Mr. John Mutuku Mutua were arrested in separate operations
for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes as inducements to provide
services.
Mr. Omwenga, an Accountant stationed at Electricity House, is
accused of soliciting a bribe of Kes 200,000 to alter a disputed electricity
bill of Kes. 346,000.
Following a complaint, the Commission mounted an operation
that led to his arrest while receiving the money.
In a separate incident at Woodley Estate, Nairobi, the
Commission arrested Mr. Masiwa and Mr. Mutua while receiving a bribe of
Kes10,000 from a resident in exchange for the irregular reconnection of
electricity supply.
The three suspects were processed at the Integrity Centre
Police Station before being released on a Kes. 50,000 bond each, pending the
conclusion of investigations.
The Commission reiterates its commitment to tackling bribery at service delivery points to restore public confidence and enhance service delivery to all Kenyans.
