25, 2025 - Former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has lauded Malawi’s
recent presidential election, calling on Kenyans to follow suit in 2027 and
vote out what he termed as “ill leadership.”
In a statement posted on X, Gachagua congratulated Malawi’s
President-elect Prof. Peter Mutharika, describing his victory as a “continental
statement” that the ballot can dismantle oppressive regimes.
“It is a declaration that Africa, the rising continent and
home to 1.5 billion people, is no longer a playground for religious hypocrisy,
conmanship, corruption, dictatorship, and self-serving leadership,” Gachagua
wrote.
He warned that leaders who cling to power through
unconstitutional means are on borrowed time, citing historical figures like Idi
Amin, Mobutu, Bokassa and Mugabe as examples of strongmen toppled by popular
will.
“Malawi has reminded us that African citizens are awake.
They see. They feel. They think. They act,” he said.
Gachagua urged Kenyans to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027
General Elections, emphasizing the power of the ballot to restore justice and
dignity.
“Let it ring loudly in the hearts of all those still waiting
for real leadership and liberation. The will of the people is supreme. WANTAM
IS A REALITY!”
Mutharika, 85, defeated incumbent Lazarus Chakwera, whose
tenure was marred by accusations of mismanagement and failure to curb
corruption.
Chakwera conceded defeat on September 24th, hours
before the electoral commission announced the final results.
