2 suspects nabbed carrying elephant tusks worth Ksh 1.8 million on a motorbike in Migori (PHOTO)



Thursday, August 7, 2025 - A joint operation carried out by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with the illegal possession of wildlife trophies.

The operation, conducted in the Namba area, Migori County, resulted in the interception of a blue Bajaj motorcycle.

Upon inspection, officers discovered six elephant tusks weighing a total of 18.8 kilograms, with an estimated street value of KSh 1.8 million.

The suspects, a 35-year-old female passenger who was found carrying the sack containing the tusks, and a 58-year-old male rider, were immediately arrested.

They have since been processed and placed in lawful custody pending arraignment.
