RAILA ODINGA breaks silence over Senator SIFUNA’s explosive remarks about ODM’s pact with President RUTO’s Government

Friday, July 25, 2025 - ODM Party leader, Raila Odinga, has come out strongly in support of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, following a backlash over his recent comments regarding the party's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Speaking during the ODM delegates’ conference in Kakamega, Raila emphasized that Sifuna’s remarks were within his democratic rights and aligned with the party’s principles of open dialogue.

“There’s nothing wrong with what Sifuna said. Everyone in ODM has the right to express their opinion - that is democracy,” Raila stated.

He added that disagreements are natural in any democratic setup and urged leaders who hold opposing views to speak up respectfully, rather than resorting to public criticism.

Sifuna sparked debate after an interview on Citizen TV where he described ODM as "confused" about its agreement with Kenya Kwanza, claiming the pact was no longer being followed and had effectively expired.

His comments hinted at simmering tensions within the party's senior leadership.

Raila urged ODM members to resolve such matters through the party’s internal structures, warning against airing disputes in public.

“We have many internal organs - if Sifuna speaks, wait for the Central Committee or the NEC to respond collectively,” he said.

He reaffirmed that Sifuna remains ODM’s official spokesperson until directed otherwise.
