Thursday, July 24, 2025 - The Government has announced plans to upgrade all Huduma Centres nationwide with new technologies aimed at drastically reducing the time taken to process police clearance certificates, commonly known as certificates of good conduct.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 24th,
the Huduma Kenya Secretariat (HKS) revealed that Multi-Biometric Identification
(MBI) systems and live capture machines will soon be installed in all centres.
These systems will enhance biometric data capture - such as
fingerprints and facial recognition - allowing for faster and more accurate
processing.
Currently, the process of acquiring a police clearance
certificate can take several days or even weeks.
However, with the new technology, turnaround time (TAT) is
expected to be cut to just one day.
The announcement follows a joint meeting between
representatives from the HKS, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),
and Public Sector Reforms (PSR), where they discussed measures to improve
service delivery across the centres.
“Plans are underway to significantly reduce the turnaround
time for DCI services, with police clearance certificates soon to be processed
and issued within a single day,” Huduma Kenya stated.
The certificate of good conduct is a vital document for job
applications and immigration processes, confirming that the holder has no
criminal record.
Applicants are required to apply through the eCitizen
portal, complete the online form, pay the requisite fee, and present themselves
at a DCI office or Huduma Centre for fingerprinting.
