Friday, June 13, 2025 - Samuel Karuga Wachiuri, a notorious con artist, has been arraigned by detectives from the Nairobi Regional Office for duping an unsuspecting businesswoman out of over Sh5 million.
Karuga, who masqueraded as a legitimate supplier of
foodstuffs, convinced the victim that he could deliver 6,000 bags of 25 kg rice
and 250 bags of 50 kg sugar.
Trusting his façade, the businesswoman transferred Sh 5,912,600
into his bank account, believing she was making a sound investment.
However, upon receiving the funds and having completed his
deceitful scheme, Karuga switched off his phone and disappeared without a
trace.
Investigations were initiated, and through forensic leads,
detectives zeroed in on Karuga, ultimately apprehending him at the Isebania
border as he attempted to flee to Tanzania.
Appearing before Hon. Caroline Nyaguthi at the Milimani Law
Courts, Karuga pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was subsequently released on a cash bail of Sh200,000.
The case is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on June 19, 2025.
