Friday, May 2, 2025 - President William Ruto has backed Arsenal Football Club to go all the way to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Speaking at State House while receiving the prestigious
trophy, Ruto, an Arsenal supporter, said he was confident the Gunners will
bounce back in their upcoming semi-final second-leg clash against Paris
Saint-Germain (PSG).
“I am an Arsenal supporter, and I hope they overturn the 1-0
loss to PSG next Wednesday in Paris and advance to the finals to hopefully lift
this trophy,” the President said.
Adding: “Since I am the last to hold it, I am praying for my
team. Whichever team you support, let’s enjoy the game.”
Arsenal is set to face PSG in the second leg of the
semi-finals on Wednesday, May 7th, at the Parc des Princes stadium.
The Champions League trophy returned to Kenya for the first
time in over a decade, creating a buzz among local football fans.
It was presented to President Ruto by Bayern Munich legend
Bastian Schweinsteiger, who lifted the trophy in 2013.
Schweinsteiger arrived in Nairobi alongside UEFA officials
as part of a continental tour.
Kenyan fans will also have the opportunity to view and take photos with the iconic trophy during its stay in the country.
