Monday, May 12, 2025 - President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria, has once again signaled a possible exit from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In a post on X, Kuria revealed plans to revive his former
political party, Chama Cha Kazi, which he had dissolved to join the United
Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The former Trade Cabinet Secretary announced that the party
will participate in upcoming by-elections, suggesting a broader plan to
reposition himself politically ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Kuria indicated that once the new Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is sworn in and by-election dates are announced,
his party will swing into action.
“As we prepare to swear in the new IEBC, this party, founded
on 17th August 2021, is the one to watch.”
“By-elections are looming. Battle Royale,” he wrote.
Kuria has been sending mixed signals about his political
future, but this statement is seen as the strongest hint yet of a departure.
All eyes are now on President Ruto to see how he responds - and whether Kuria will be retained in his advisory role.
