Friday, May 23, 2025 - The Rongo Magistrate Court has allowed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)’s application seeking to have four individuals, including two directors of St. Joseph Mission of Messiah in Africa Limited Church, detained for an additional 21 days to allow completion of investigations.

The prosecution, through Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Ms. Mercelle Ikol and Prosecution Counsel Ms. Juliet Ombogo, filed the application seeking to have Michael Kus Onyango, Luka Ochieng, Everline Gemamo, and Lilian Atieno Olal remanded at Kamagambo Police Station while the police investigate the mysterious death of a GSU officer and confirm compliance with the Public Health Act.

Prosecuting Counsels Ms. Ikol and Ms. Ombogo informed the court that investigations are at an advanced stage and that the prosecution intends to charge the suspects upon completion of the inquiry.

Ms. Ikol further told the court that the ODPP has filed a separate application seeking orders to exhume the body of a GSU officer, who was mysteriously buried on 28th March 2025 within the church compound in Rongo Sub-County, Migori County.

It is alleged that the officer, Police Constable Adan Ayoo, died under unclear circumstances on 27th March 2025 and was buried without the knowledge or consent of his parents or employer.

The ODPP is seeking the exhumation to determine the cause of death through a postmortem at Migori County Referral Hospital.

The matter will be mentioned on 27th May 2025 for exhumation direction, while the case is scheduled for further directions on 12th June 2025.
