Tuesday, April 15, 2025 - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the National Police Service (NPS) have responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims of multiple attempts on his life.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja advised Gachagua
to coordinate with law enforcement regarding his public movements for proper
security planning.
“He is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels
and notify the police in advance of his movements to facilitate proper planning
and coordination of his security arrangements,” the NPS stated.
On his part, CS Murkomen, without directly naming Gachagua,
criticized leaders he said were undermining the police to gain public sympathy.
“We must respect our police officers. Some people think they
can reprimand them,” he said during a funeral in Bomet County.
Murkomen urged leaders with security concerns to formally
seek assistance.
“If you are a leader with a public function and feel unsafe,
write to the IG and coordinate with police on the ground,” he advised.
On Tuesday, Gachagua accused the IG of deliberately
withdrawing his security following his impeachment and issued demands for its
reinstatement.
Other leaders, including Trans Nzoia Governor George
Natembeya and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, have also raised safety
concerns.
Natembeya claimed he is being trailed by unknown individuals
for criticizing President Ruto, while Wamuchomba reported intimidation after
responding to a DCI summons earlier this month.
