Gloves off as former CS MUTURI slams RUTO for lying about his exit from Cabinet and spills more beans

Wednesday, April 2, 2025 - Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Justin Muturi, has hit back at President Ruto and dismissed claims that he was sacked due to poor performance or failing to attend Cabinet meetings.

Speaking at a press briefing, Muturi insists that his sacking was politically motivated, linked to his outspoken criticism of extrajudicial killings and abductions under President William Ruto’s administration.

“Since my reasons for missing Cabinet meetings are clear, one can conclude that raising concerns about abductions and extrajudicial killings is a highly sensitive issue for the President,” he remarked.

Muturi disclosed that he deliberately skipped the last Cabinet meeting on March 11th at State House after realizing that extrajudicial killings were not on the agenda.

He also claimed that he had written to President Ruto three times about the matter, with his last letter sent on March 10th.

However, he never received a response. “To date, the President has never confirmed receipt or responded to any of my letters regarding abductions and extrajudicial killings,” he said.

“This clearly indicates that the matter is not a priority for the President or the Cabinet.”

The former CS expressed his shock at Ruto’s televised claim that the issue had already been resolved by the Cabinet.

“I have regularly received Cabinet dispatches, and I can confirm that this matter has never been discussed,” he stated. “Like many Kenyans, I was shocked to hear the President say otherwise on live TV.”

Ruto, during a recent roundtable interview with vernacular media, claimed that Muturi had initially been appointed as Attorney General but struggled in the role due to a lack of recent legal practice.

“Muturi himself admitted that he was overwhelmed by the role of Attorney General,” Ruto explained.“So, I reassigned him to another ministry because of our long-standing friendship.”

However, Ruto argued that Muturi’s continued absence from Cabinet meetings was an act of defiance, leaving him with no choice but fire him.

“I persuaded him to stay on. I reassigned him, but he refused to attend Cabinet meetings.”

“Did I fire him, or did he fire himself?” Ruto posed.
