Rapper LIL DURK linked to 2022 murder in Chicago

Sunday, December 15, 2024 - American rapper, Lil Durk is now facing another legal battle.

According to legal documents obtained by the Chicago Tribune, the 28-year-old rapper legal name Devontay Banks has been linked to another murd£r case.

The probe stems from the 2022 death of Stephon Mack, an alleged gang leader who was fatally gunned down outside a Chicago youth center.

Authorities allege Durk orchestrated the fatal shooting to exact revenge on the Gangster Disciples street gang, as one of its associates allegedly murder£d Durk’s brother, Dontay Banks, in 2021.

“Lil Durk was and still is offering money for people to kill those responsible for his brother’s murder, and more specifically, offering to pay money for any Gangster Disciple that is killed,” a federal agent wrote.

Chicago law enforcement said Durk has not been charged in the Mack murder investigation, which is still “open and active.”

The Tribune cited an April 2023 warrant application that was unsealed Wednesday, December 11, ahead of Durk’s unrelated detention hearing.

The Chicago rapper was arrested in October for his alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire scheme. Prosecutors said Durk had put a hit on fellow rapper Quando Rondo in response to King Von’s 2020 killing.

Authorities alleged Durk and his co-defendants targeted Rondo at a West Hollywood gas station; however, the ambush resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin.

Durk was charged with one count of conspiracy; one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death; and one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.

His codefendants are 28-year-old Kavon London Grant, 33-year-old Deandre Dontrell Wilson, 33-year-old Keith Jones, 33-year-old David Brian Lindsey, and 36-year-old Asa Houston.

“Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member,” United States Attorney Martin Estrada said in a press release.

“Not only that, the shooting occurred in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area. Violent gun crime of this sort is devastating to our community and we will have zero-tolerance for those who perpetrate such callous acts of violence.”

Durk has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.
