F1 legend EDDIE JORDAN battling cancer

Thursday, December 12, 2024 - Eddie Jordan, the 76-year-old former Formula 1 team owner and pundit, has opened up about his battle with prostate and bladder cancer, which has aggressively spread to his spine and pelvis over recent months. Speaking on his Formula For Success podcast, co-hosted with David Coulthard, Jordan shared his experience and urged listeners to prioritize regular health checks.

“We’ve kind of alluded to it, David, over the shows. Way back in March and April, I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer,” he said. “And then it spread into the spine and the pelvis, so it was quite aggressive.”

Jordan emphasized the importance of early testing and self-care, saying, “Don’t wait or put it off. Go and get tested because in life you’ve got chances, and there is so much medical advice out there and so many things that you can do to extend your lifetime. Don’t be stupid, don’t be shy. Look after your body, guys.”

Reflecting on his journey, Jordan acknowledged enduring “some very dark days,” but expressed gratitude for his progress, stating, “We pulled out of it, thankfully.”

Jordan is a celebrated figure in the motorsport world, having owned the Jordan Grand Prix team from 1991 to 2005. The team famously gave Michael Schumacher his Formula 1 debut and achieved its best result in 1998 with Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher securing a 1-2 finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. Jordan transitioned to broadcasting in 2009 and has since been a familiar face on platforms like BBC Sport, Channel 4, and Sky Sports.

In addition to his career accolades, Jordan was awarded an honorary OBE in 2012 for his contributions to charity and motor racing. He also joined the cast of Top Gear in 2016.

Encouraging others to remain hopeful, Jordan said, “I’m coming out the other side. Everyone else should come out the other side. The prognosis is absolutely fantastic. The medical awareness of what’s going on at the moment is quite simply mind-boggling.”
