Monday, September 30, 2024 - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims of blackmailing President William Ruto.
In an interview with one of the
local radio stations on Sunday, Gachagua said all he has been doing is
demanding fairness from Ruto, given that Mt Kenya overwhelmingly voted for him.
The second in command disclosed
that the many appointments for the populous region have come out of intense
lobbying.
"You have heard MPs
claiming I blackmailed the president. There is no blackmail, but the issue is
me sitting down with the president and demanding our fair share because we
voted for him.
“The positions we got as a
region did not come easy. I really tried. I have been fighting every day for
appointments to come to this region," Gachagua said.
Gachagua slammed politicians
from the Mt Kenya region, accusing him of tribalism, yet his only intention was
to fight for the region's interests.
"I've heard them say I'm
tribalistic; isn’t it true that I advocate a lot for the people of Mt. Kenya?
“So, how can you accuse me of
tribalism while also saying I'm not doing enough for the community?
“It's really unfair to me. The
little I've done, the effort I've put in, is what makes them label me as
tribalistic," he said.
