Irungu was sentenced to death in
connection with the murder of business lady, Monica Kimani, in Lamuria Gardens,
Kilimani in 2018.
In his comments on X, Makau who is also
a renowned law expert and scholar, said the death penalty does not bring back the victim to life nor
deter future killers.
He
further termed the sentence as vengeful, primitive, callous, and without any
redemption to benefit society.
"Nor does the death penalty bring back the victim or deter future killers.
"It’s vengeful, primitive, and callous and without redemption or any single benefit to society.
"An eye for an eye makes the entire society blind," Makau wrote
on Wednesday.
