Friday, January 19, 2024 - Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has accused President William Ruto of fooling Kenyans with some little reduction in fuel prices.
Venting on X, the
renegade UDA MP vowed not to commend the Kenya Kwanza government for lowering the
fuel prices.
According to
Wamuchomba, Ruto’s government blamed global factors for the rising fuel prices
and therefore she will thank the global factors for the price cuts.
Besides, she noted
that Ruto fooled Kenyans by reducing the fuel by a mere Sh5 despite the global
fuel prices being at its lowest.
“How can I thank the
government for lowering the fuel yet they disowned the rising prices and blamed
on global factors? Let me thank global factors,” said Wamuchomba.
On January 14, the
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reduced the prices of Petrol,
Diesel and Kerosene by Sh 5.00, Sh5.00 and Sh 4.82 per litre respectively.
Petrol, Diesel and
Kerosene now retails at Sh 207.36, Sh196.47 Sh194.23 respectively in Nairobi.
The new fuel prices
are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as outlined by the Finance Act
2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and the revised rates for exercise
duty adjusted for inflation.
According to EPRA, the
average landing cost of imported Petrol decreased by 2.40% from $694.44 per
cubic metre in November 2023 to $677.78 per cubic metre in December 2023.
Diesel decreased by
9.06% from $826.01 per cubic metre to $751.15 per cubic metre while Kerosene
