Detectives back to the drawing board as a Nigerian man who was arrested at JKIA in connection to RITA WAENI’s murder is released - See why he was set free.

Friday, January 19, 2024 - A Nigerian man who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in connection to the brutal murder of 20-year-old University student Rita Waeni has been released.

The foreigner was arrested as he was preparing to board a flight to Abuja, Nigeria after his travel documents raised suspicion.

He was travelling to Nigeria on a Mozambican passport, prompting security agents at JKIA to arrest him.

He was taken to Kasarani Police Station for identification but he was released after witnesses failed to identify him as the man seen on CCTV booking an Airbnb along TRM Drive, where Rita was murdered and her body dismembered.

According to detectives, the suspect did not speak Swahili and had been staying at South C.

The family of the slain lady told detectives that the suspect who murdered their daughter spoke Swahili when he demanded Sh500,000 ransom.

The owner of the Airbnb also told detectives that the suspect spoke fluent Swahili when he called her to book the room.

“Witnesses including the owner of the Airbnb said that the suspect spoke Swahili when he called her.

"The family of the victim shared the same information, saying the suspect spoke Swahili during their interactions while also demanding the Sh500,000 ransom,” police revealed.

They also said he appeared young, light, and well-versed in the area, prompting police to release the Nigerian man because he did not fit the description.
